PADI Dive Against Debris Specialty

Before the dive against debris dive we'll learn about:PADI Dive Against Debris Specialty

  • Just what is marine debris, the damage that it causes, where it comes from to get into our oceans and how scuba divers can be part of the solution.
  • How to set up a Dive Against Debris survey, how often to survey, sites, profiles and equipment.   Also how the use of photography can help promote awareness of the problem of marine debris and of course knowing what not to remove from dive sites.
  • The best way to ensure your survey has the maximum beneficial effect and the best way to report the debris you’ve removed.
  • We will also explain how you can join the global Project AWARE movement of scuba divers protecting our planet's oceans.

During the Dive Against Debris dive, you will conduct a Dive Against Debris survey and this will including weighing, sorting, recording, disposing and reporting your marine debris to Project AWARE.

When stdents take their Divemaster course or Internship with us then teach them the Dive Against Debris Specialty for free and they only need to pay for the certification fee to PADI which is currently 2,000 baht.  If students are taking their Instructor course (IDC) with us then we teach them the Instructor Specialty for free during their IDC.  Again the only thing they need to pay for is the Instructor Specialty application fee, but all of the certification and application fees for the Dive Against Debris Specialty go to Project Aware and so students are saving a little piece of the planet there too.

Davy Jones Locker is passionate about about helping the environment and this is why we adopted the Hin Wong dive site and always try to do our Dive Against Debris dives there and also get involved in coral monitoring there.
