Advanced Open Water Diver

The PADI Advanced Open Water Course is made up of 5 adventure dives and is completed in 2 days. This course introduces new divers to what PADI has to offer by giving them a taste of the different specialties available.

Two of the adventure dives are mandatory, the Deep Diver and Underwater Navigation.

In the Deep Dive, we will teach you about nitrogen narcosis, let you examine a pressure-related object to gain a better understanding of being under four atmospheres and make a depth gauge comparison to demonstrate the differences between analog and digital meters. Afterward, we will explore the site together and make a slow ascent up to the safety stop.

During the Underwater Navigation dive, we will break down the principles used by divers to navigate around the dive sites. This includes using a compass and natural navigation with visual references such as depth, bottom composition, contour, rock formations, corals and sunlight. By the end of the dive, you will be leading us around the site and back to the boat.

The other three dives are your choice and you can discuss with your instructor which dives will benefit you the most. Below is a list of our most popular adventure dives in Koh Tao.

Peak Performance Buoyancy

This is an optional dive that we highly recommend you to take as it will improve your movement through the water by ensuring that your equipment is streamlined, your weights are positioned correctly and you are using the right amount of weights. We’ll also focus on how you control your breathing, this is all aimed at improving your air consumption rate to make it longer which in turn will result in you being able to dive for longer!! We’ll play lots of games underwater to make you focus on your buoyancy control. Choosing this dive can make a big improvement to your diving.

Night Dive

This is a very different and unique experience from diving in the daylight. Armed with an underwater torch, you will plunge into the darkness and explore the reef as night falls while the usual creatures are fast asleep and new ones emerge.

Wreck Dive

We are fortunate enough to have a perfectly intact ship wreck suitable for training dives here on Koh Tao. The “HTMS Sattakut” is a former US World War II warship that was donated to the Royal Thai Navy before being intentionally sunk in our waters. She rests at a depth of 28-30 meters in the sand with the bridge rising to about 18 meters.

Multi-level & Computer Dive

Deep diving extends the limits of your exploration, but bottom time becomes limited if you follow a single-level dive profile. If we move to a more sophisticated planning technique, by using a multi-level plan, and back this up by wearing a dive computer, we can vastly increase our available bottom time.

Underwater Naturalist:

You will learn to appreciate the relationships between various marine species and begin to identify strange, beautiful and unique organisms that are only encountered in the underwater world.

Search and Recovery:

Learn how to execute some of the most common underwater search patterns such as a U-pattern or an expanding square. Additionally, we will train you to use lift bags properly in order to recover objects that are too heavy for you to safely recover using only your BCD.

Underwater Photography/Videography

Lights, action camera! Now that you have peak buoyancy and scuba diving skills, you may find yourself wanting to capture the unbelievable life seen below the surface. We will teach you about equipment, angles, exposure and camera movements before a brief introduction to editing and storytelling.
